Clinton, This is unbelievable! I never dreamed there was so much information available on the family name! I haven't finshed reading it all yet, but one thing that nearly floored me was the mention of the name 'Delap'..............what can you tell me about it please?

Great job done!

Hello Eileen,
Yes there is a lot of information to read on our family history. I am not too sure about the question 'Delap'. I am not too sure on where you saw that. I can give you information about the McCrohan history though.
Cheers
Clint

CUT & PASTED FROM PART 1....see bottom line (the history).who was Delap please?

Castle LetirmacCriomhthainn 1300 A.D. It was sometime during the next 300 years that the MacCriomhthainn clan built their castle known as LetirmacCriomhthainn or Letter. The castle of the MacCriomhthainns is located near Reenard in County Kerry, on the lower South slopes of Bentee Mountain. Reenard is a small town and today a lot of our relatives are still live there, the town is located between Valentia Island and Cahersiveen. Today, apart from its enclosing earthwork, there are no visible remains of this castle besides the foundations and defensive ditch that are still visible. It has been recorded that Cnogher MacCriomhthainn occupied the castle in 1656, during this time the castle was apparently destroyed and levelled by the English army commanded by Oliver Cromwell. The MacCriomhthainns were then run off their lands, the area was then confiscated and granted to Alexander Eagers in 1667. No trace of the castle survived in 1841, and Delap recorded that it had been demolished to build adjoining farmhouses.

Oh yes I remember now, sorry about that, Delap is a computerised records program that holds historic information about family names and castles, etc. Here is a website that will provide some info:
